Hebden Goat wins Best Small Food Producer
Yorkshire cheese maker deservedly wins national award
Gillian Clough of Hebden Bridge has bagged a prestigious national award for her lovely cheese, Hebden Goat. The Small Food Awards are designed to celebrate small, professional food producers in the UK who are often at the leading edge of innovation and excellence in the food industry. The awards champion products that are traditional, and hand-made on a small scale (i.e. no more than 2 employees involved).
Gillian only started making Hebden Goat cheese in 2015. She and her husband, Tim, farm just seven goats on their ten acres of pasture land in the Pennine hills high above Hebden Bridge in Yorkshire. Using this raw goats milk, Gillian then goes on to make 50 small cheeses each week, in the French style of a soft, rich goats cheese. At The Courtyard Dairy we have worked with Gillian since day one and we still collect all the Hebden Goats Cheese from the farm every two weeks whilst they are young, before ageing the cheese till it is perfectly ripe.
The judges were particularly impressed by the quality of Gillian’s cheese and the richness of her milk, and awarded her cheese category winner of ‘Best Small Food Producer 2016’. Well done, Gillian!
